With the falling Russian Rouble affecting businesses in Italy, as well as a concern for political unrest in Europe, the general attitude at Pitti Uomo this year seemed to be that of taking nothing for granted, and the overall mood was paradoxically high…aside from the nervosity of a few worrisome men running in and out of the bathroom from time to time.
This winter’s Pitti Uomo brought people of the trade and their clientele and admirers together in respectful and fun way. As for what men are wearing, the typical gap between high-fashion and classic seemed to narrow, with some overlapping of style choices between groups.
Here are some of the more compelling looks that that we noticed that you may like (or not):
Who knew gloves were an accessory, even when you’re not wearing them? Gloves were peeking out of chest pockets and side pockets almost everywhere we looked, and the effect was good.
Small checks abounded as a predominate fabric pattern–a welcome “scale” change that’s both refreshing and especially dapper.
A great overcoat is never a wasted investment and is one of the strongest ways to express a very specific personal taste and style.
Brown shoes abounded at this winter’s Pitti, and why not? We loved the look of more brown in town.
With a sea of hats all around, it was like the 1940s all over again, with men topping their heads quite naturally–as if they’d been doing it all their lives.
When you begin buying rust colored jackets, ties, pocket squares, suits and socks…you’ll be surprised at how much this color will be your go-to choice for “what to wear”. Move over navy and gray and make room for this fresh color.
And remember, rust never sleeps.
It’s easy to miss this one since most all photos of men at Pitti are taken from the front, instead of the back side. The ever-present Martingale coat made a strong appearance this year and added an unexpected “wow factor” as men unleashed their creativity on the back, as well as the front of their clothing.
A look that’s almost impossible not to like…it’s warm, welcoming and reminiscent of the iconic and beloved Mr. Rogers.
Perhaps the most extreme style factor at Pitti 87– with nonstop creative scarving showing up at every turn. Unleash yourself and go wild with this one in order to resuscitate even the most boring gray or navy suit.
1. Lapel Pin Art – Overall, lapel pins were subtle and underplayed–and lapel pins with brand symbols were much less apparent.
2. Multi-Bracelets – Bracelets (although perhaps seasonal) were kept to a minimum, usually not exceeding two bracelets at a time.
3. Big Checks on Fabric – A few classic windowpanes to be seen, but overall checked patterns were on a smaller scale.
